VAR-SOM-MX8M-NANO changelog

Murata Type 2DL/2EL Wireless Module Firmware Requirement (February 2026)

Component Change Notice

NXP changed the IW611 IC fabrication source from TSMC to UMC. The Murata module MPN did not change.

SOMs with Murata Type 2DL or Type 2EL wireless modules shipped from the beginning of February 2026 require NXP firmware released after April 2025. Firmware versions released before April 2025 are not compatible with the UMC-manufactured IW611 IC.

Affected Wireless Modules Affected Shipments Minimum Supported Firmware
Murata Type 2DL / Type 2EL Beginning of February 2026 18.99.3.p23.20

The firmware update also requires that the Wi-Fi driver, btnxpuart driver and OpenThread userspace utility are updated. This update is backwards compatible with modules shipped prior to February 2026.

Software Requirement

Update your existing BSP to the required update listed below for your release / branch. This includes updates to the following packages backported from the NXP 6.12.20 BSP:

  • Wi-Fi firmware version 18.99.3.p23.20
  • Wi-Fi driver version MM6X18537.p9
  • btnxpuart driver
  • OpenThread userspace utility
