Android Recovery Sd Card

Use a Yocto recovery SD card to install the Android release package into the SOM's internal storage.

Prepare the Recovery SD Card

Follow the MX8X Yocto recovery SD card guide to download the Yocto release package and write its recovery image to an SD card. Writing the image erases the SD card; check the target device before proceeding.

Power off the board, insert the recovery SD card, select SD boot, and power on the board. Log in to Yocto as root.

Download the Android Release Package

Download mx8x-android-15.0.0_1.2.0-v1.1.tar.zst:

wget https://variscite-public.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/VAR-SOM-MX8X/Software/android/mx8x-android-15.0.0_1.2.0-v1.1.tar.zst
tar --use-compress-program=unzstd -xf mx8x-android-15.0.0_1.2.0-v1.1.tar.zst

The package contains the Android images in android-artifacts/android/ and the installation script in android-artifacts/scripts/.

Install Android to eMMC

The installation replaces the contents of the SOM's internal storage.

cd android-artifacts
chmod a+x scripts/mx8_install_android.sh
./scripts/mx8_install_android.sh

Follow the installation prompts. After installation completes, power off the board, select eMMC boot, remove the SD card, and power on the board to boot Android.
